Buist bloggers

Well the Buist bloggers are out in full force on my favorite critic's blog. Gotta laugh at those crazy people. They actually think their kids are smarter than ours. Smarter kids deserve a better education. I missed that Supreme Court ruling. They even think it's okay that they use Mommy and Daddy's address to get that better education. Mr. Demetre? You got some nerve showing up and mouthing off at the board Monday night, don't you? What about that Wally guy? Mark blahdenburg, too.
What a trip. The biggest trip was our girl Toya telling us if the board wants to go after "parents who haven't told the truth" then we need a committee. SHEEEET, girl. Where have you been? Better yet, how dumb do you think we are?
Thanks for the laughs, Buist babies, keep 'em coming. We welcome your crazy comments here.

The biggest joke is somehow the Buist gang think this has all been about trying to get our kids into Buist. We gave up on that idea a long time ago. We are working instead on improving a lot more than just gaining access to one school for a few people. The sad truth is that the administration did a helluva lot more work in trying to keep the status quo. And they say the Buist critics are fighting change. Sounds like it's really the other way around. So where are all those Buist people who suggest that everyone else get their own Buist. I don't see them standing up for partial magnets, charter schools or standardizing the admissions process at the other so-called county-wide magnets.

Nobody thinks their kids are smarter than yours and have more of a right to get into Buist... you're just stirring the s--t to get a negative reaction... but I guess that's what it's all about in the "Blog world"...

How about saying and doing something positive to get people motivated to make a change in ALL the district...not just "downtown"

What cracks me up is your interpretation of everything always comes back to negativity. If you don't think playing the victim time and time again isn't teaching your children to whine - then, good luck with that.

As if we crazy people really think our kids are smarter than yours.....who cares? Where did that come from....?

It came from the mouths of Buist parents. Thank goodness I can laugh at those types of comments. I guess you didn't get the humor. But on a serious note, when was the last time you visited a District 20 school other than Buist? Sit in a classroom at Fraser, Mitchell, Sanders-Clyde in any grade and then you'll know I'm not whining, I'm fighting for equal education for all kids downtown. Buist simply reminds us of what all children could be receiving. Pretending these kids at Buist are all SAIL kids is a joke. Buist parents justify the foreign language, SAIL, etc. because they've stated their kids deserve it. Where have you been? South Carolina test kids for SAIL in the 2nd grade, not pre-kindergarten. How are kids at Buist receiving SAIL when they don't qualify for it Yes, I've heard of the kids at Buist who haven't passed the SAIL test.
As I've stated before, District 20 parents taking slots at a magnet school in Mt. Pleasant would not last a day. You obviously don't live in our community.

Hey, Underdog, I wonder how many of those crazy comments came from Buist parents who are teaching their kids to LIE?

Anonymous said...

Underdog - you are misinformed. Not all children are receiving SAIL. You are correct, they are tested in 2nd grade. A parent can request that their child be tested later if they didn't qualify in 2nd grade. My child's class has students who are not taken out for SAIL.

If Buist reminds you of what all children should be receiving.....then why the Buist bashing?

Anonymous said...

7:43 - what does foreign language and SAIL have to do with lying?

If some Buist kids don't qualify for SAIL, then how do these kids get rated as gifted and talented or pass a test that we are told is supposed to screen for exceptionally bright 4 and 5 year olds? Sounds like double talk to me. To the writer who suggests that Buist resources should be replicated elsewhere instead of bashing Buist. Couldn't agree with you more. So please tell Gregg Meyers and other county school board members to quit standing in the way by keeping Buist as their very own, personal, one-of-a-kind, semi-private school.

As a parent of a Buist kid, I can tell you not all, but most of the kids are in SAIL... some are even taken out for more SAIL because they passed the gifted test taken in 2nd grade... THAT does not mean I am saying that Buist kids are smarter than any other school

But the Buist curriculum is not for all kids... there are those who do struggle to keep the grade average to stay in...

So what my point is... is to know your child and know they can handle the work... and to know that YOU as a parent can stay on task...

My kid attends Angel Oak, qualifies for SAIL, yet is not provided SAIL. Any chance you can offer some suggestions for me, Buist parent?

Anonymous said...

Yes, good question, Angel Oak parent. I'd like to hear what suggestions the Buist parent has for a SAIL qualified kid who isn't being offered SAIL.

Anonymous said...

From Buist parent... If I could help you get your child into SAIL, believe me I would... but I'm just a stay-at-home mom...

My suggestion is for you and all the parents at your school, demand for SAIL to be offered...write letters, send emails, etc.

There HAS to be pro-active parents that make enough noise to get what their children deserve...

Don't bash me because we get it... raise some hell at your school to make your voices heard

How about you "raise some hell" with me? I'm not able to be a "stay at home mom." I work 2 jobs, as do most of my friends. I wasn't bashing you. Yet your attitude is obvious. Why do we have to "make...noise" for our children to receive the same education? Do you believe in equal education? Or are you telling me it's MY fault my child isn't receiving the same education as your child?
I'm beginning to understand, Underdog.

Hey, "I'm just a stay at home Mom". You'd be surprised at the hell "stay at home" Moms can raise for ALL children...not just their own. Come out of your shell and give the Superintendent a call. It's time we work together for equal education. Help the Angel Oak parent out. Then find out what the rest of our gifted and talented children are provided in District 20.
The silence of Buist parents in our fight for equal education is deafening.

D20 has made noise, offered solutions and filled gaps. The silence of 75 Calhoun is just as deafening.

I think those fighting change are the ones on the inside. Gregg Meyers said it all when he challenged D20 supporters. He said in 2005 that if they weren't happy with the way CCSD was operating district policies and downtown schools they should get together and start their own school. Yet he attempted to stand in their way when they did just that.

So to the stay at home mom who says parents of children at failing schools should make more noise, it would be nice to hear some meaningful support to all those lucky enough to have a seat in those handful of "power schools". Or has Gregg Meyers insolated them too well for them to hear the cry of the masses?

Angel Oak parent - how can you hold a grudge against a parent at another school? My profession is not in education and I am not familiar with what goes on at every public school in Charleston County. I find it bitter of you to lash out at a parent.

If all are fighting to "create more Buists" - then why do you criticize what Buist offers?
Angel Oak parent - no one ever said it was YOUR fault for anything.

And shame on you all for casting a negative light on her "stay-at-home" status. I guess you'd criticize that she should be with her children more if she didn't stay at home. God bless her for her hard work at home. No one said she's eating bon bons.

I'm going to apologize to the Angel Oak parent on behalf of the Buist parent. I'll leave it at that for now. I try not to waste time attempting to rationalize with the irrational. If Angel Oak is not providing SAIL for your child and he/she is in at least 3rd grade, I believe they're in violation of state law. I'd make some phone calls to 75 Calhoun Street at 937-6300.

Anonymous said...

Underdog... you have no right to apologize for me... the "Buist" parent... I will NOT apologize for getting my child into Buist...I will not apologize for being a stay-at-home mom and living pay check to pay check and not driving the big SUVs and living in a house to big for my family...

I followed the rules for admission, tryed other options (St. Andrews, transfer to Harborview) and was LUCKY to have my kid picked by the lottery from the county list... if anyone is irrational it's you and your blog

If Angel Oak parent has a problem with their school it's their responsiblity to do something about it NOT MINE... I have enough on my plate with my child and her education

Fyi... even though she's in Buist doesn't mean everything is going smoothly... there are problems in every school... but fortunately I'm a very involved parent in MY child's school...

Maybe more parents should step up to the plate

The apology wasn't referring to your child getting into Buist. The apology was for the unreasonable accusations you made against the Angel Oak parent. But then again, I did welcome those comments, didn't I?

Underdog said...

And thanks for giving us more insight into your situation. It sounds like you may have more empathy than you realize.

Anonymous said...

I didn't make ANY accusations against the Angel Oak parent... I believe it was the other way around...

Read anonymous 10:57 Sept 5...(thanks anonymous 10:57 for sticking up for me)

My SUGGESTIONS were asked for and I gave them

I said raise some hell as a parent if you don't like what's going in at your school... but no one wants to hear that from a "Buist" parent

Are you seriously telling me Angel Oak parent and the two posts after that will actually listen to what I have to say? Don't think so...

I'm finished here... thanks for making me feel welcome

It's the "save your yourself" and screw the rest that's killing us. We have fallen into the CCSD trap and we only have ourselves to blame. If we actually united together, CCSD would flip. They want us to continue fighting. God forbid we actually turn our anger on them. Then we may actually hold them accountable for this mess we're in.
